Abridge
Abridge develops enterprise generative AI for clinical conversations, converting patient-clinician dialogue into structured, billable clinical notes in real time. Its platform spans clinician documentation, nursing, and revenue cycle workflows, built on a proprietary Contextual Reasoning Engine and integrated directly into Epic's electronic health record. The company emerged in 2018 from the Pittsburgh Health Data Alliance, a collaboration between UPMC, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Pittsburgh. Co-founders include Shiv Rao (CEO), a practicing UPMC cardiologist; Sandeep Konam (CMU robotics); and Florian Metze (speech recognition); with Zachary Lipton, a CMU machine learning professor, later serving as chief technology and scientific officer. Abridge is deployed across 150+ health systems including Kaiser Permanente, Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Duke Health, Emory, and Sutter Health. It raised a $300M Series E in June 2025 led by Andreessen Horowitz with Khosla Ventures at a $5.3B valuation, followed by a reported $316M extension in April 2026, bringing total funding to roughly $778M.
