Profluent

Profluent develops frontier AI models for protein design, using generative machine learning to create novel functional proteins for applications across therapeutics, agriculture, and biomanufacturing. The company was first to demonstrate that large language models can generate functional proteins, work published in Nature Biotechnology, and has released models including ProGen and OpenCRISPR. Founded in 2022 by CEO Ali Madani (architect of the ProGen project at Salesforce AI Research) and Alexander Meeske (a microbiology lab head at the University of Washington), Profluent is based in Berkeley, California. Commercial partners include Revvity, Corteva Agriscience, the Rett Syndrome Research Trust, and Integrated DNA Technologies. The company raised a $106M Series B in November 2025 co-led by Altimeter Capital and Bezos Expeditions, bringing total funding to $150M.
